Hamas mourns 7 of Its political leader Ismael Haniyeh’s sons and grandchildren in Gaza
On Wednesday, Hamas mourned 7 of the sons and grandchildren of the head of its political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, who were martyred in a treacherous and cowardly Israeli raid that targeted their car in the Gaza Strip.
This came in a statement by the movement following an Israeli air strike that targeted a car carrying members of the Haniyeh family in the Beach camp, west of Gaza City.
Hamas said that the victims “were walking around to congratulate the camp residents and their relatives on the occasion of Eid al Fitr, which led to its complete destruction and the killing and wounding of everyone who was in it”.
Hamas added in the statement, “We congratulate the head of the political bureau of the movement on the rise of 7 of his children and grandchildren, who are the martyrs: Hazem, Amir, and Muhammad, and their children: Mona, Amal, Khaled, and Razan, following a treacherous and cowardly raid that targeted them in al Shati camp on the first day of Eid al Fitr”.
Hamas explained that Israel targeted them “while they were united with their people in one trench, to join the ranks of about 60 martyrs from the honorable and heroic martyrs of the Haniyeh family, and the convoys of the brave martyrs of our people in the Battle of al Aqsa Flood”.
Earlier Wednesday, the Israeli army acknowledged the assassination of 3 of Haniyeh’s sons in a raid that targeted a car in Gaza, claiming that they belonged to the Qassam Brigades and that they were on their way to carry out what it called “terrorist activity”.
The Israeli army said in a statement posted on its account on X, “Earlier today, an Air Force drone, under intelligence guidance from Military Intelligence (Aman) and the General Security Service (Shin Bet), bombed 3 military activists affiliated with the Hamas organization as they were heading to carry out a terrorist activity, in the central Gaza Strip area”.
In a related context, Hamas indicated in its statement that Israel’s targeting of the movement’s leaders, their sons, and their families “are nothing but desperate attempts by a failed enemy in the field and terrified by the resistance’s strikes and valor”.
Hamas noted that these practices won’t succeed in breaking the will to persevere among all the members of the movement and the Palestinian people, and will only increase their steadfastness and determination to continue the battle.
Hamas continued, “The Israeli occupation is under the illusion that the escalation of its terrorism, its genocidal war, and its barbaric bombing against the defenseless civilians of our people will achieve an achievement for it in the course of negotiations after its abject failure in achieving any of its aggressive goals”.
For months, Egypt, Qatar, and the United States have been mediating indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas, with the aim of reaching a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement.
Commenting on the assassination of his sons and grandchildren, Haniyeh confirmed in video statements he made to Al Jazeera Channel, after receiving the news on Wednesday, that the blood of his sons “isn’t more precious” than the blood of other martyrs who preceded them in the Israeli war on Gaza, which has entered its seventh month.
