According to Habertürk, the Russian President Vladimir Putin will discuss the situation in Syria with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan next week in the Russian city of Sochi, with Turkish assurances that the talks between Ankara and Damascus are continuing.
Habertürk said that the Turkish President intends to hold talks with his Russian counterpart, on September 4 in Sochi.
Erdogan will visit Russia for one day, and will largely focus on the issue of the fate of the grain deal, and the two presidents will also discuss the situation in Syria.
The Turkish official’s statement comes after a noticeable decrease in the frequency of talks about meetings between Turkish officials and officials in the Syrian government, after a series of meetings since last year at the defense, intelligence and foreign levels within the framework of Russia’s efforts to normalize relations between Damascus and Ankara.
The Syrian government stresses that the normalization of relations with Ankara must be preceded by the withdrawal of the Turkish forces from northern Syria, which the Türkiye rejects, under the pretext of protecting its national security and fighting terrorism.
