Haaretz reported that the “QatarGate” could be the final blow to Netanyahu, as financial ties with Qatar were still acceptable before October 7, 2023, under the guise of the principle that “everyone does it”.

The Israeli newspaper explained, in an analysis by Israeli journalist Ravit Hecht, that this principle is what Netanyahu uses to justify any crime or corruption, but such financial ties after the massacre are no less shocking.

Haaretz newspaper added that the government is trying to downplay the issue, as the Hebrew term “kosher but stinky” or “legal but suspicious” is frequently used in discussions, alongside ongoing efforts to downplay the seriousness of the criminal suspicions, at least according to what is known so far.

The “QatarGate” is an investigation into members of Netanyahu’s government suspected of receiving funds from Qatar to promote the country.

The investigation is being conducted by the Israeli police and the Shin Bet internal security service.
