Haaretz: Israel loses the war on 3 fronts
In an article published in Israeli Haaretz newspaper, intelligence analyst and strategist Yossi Melman addressed the Israeli military situation in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, and on the Lebanon front.
Melman argued that Hezbollah is operating more sophisticated than Israel, and the risk of a third war in Lebanon is increasing.
The end of the war in Gaza would lead to a prisoner exchange deal and would also bring peace, albeit temporarily, to the Hezbollah front.
He stressed the importance of a compromise with Hamas, even if it’s interpreted as Israeli weakness, and it will certainly anger the Israeli far right.
He concluded that Israel and its army are losing the war on two main fronts in the north and in Gaza, and on a third and secondary front that is intertwined: in the West Bank.
Israel, he said, refuses to acknowledge this reality and deludes themselves that they will succeed in bringing about a coup that will lead them to victory.
“This self-deception isn’t the sole property of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who believes in his typical demagoguery in total victory… It’s their real victory”.
