Haaretz: Biden realized that Netanyahu was lying to him with the exchange deal
According to Israeli Haaretz newspaper – citing a US administration official – that US President Joe Biden realized that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was lying to him about reaching a prisoner release deal and a ceasefire during his visit last week to Washington.
The US official said that Netanyahu ignores the large aid provided by the United States to Israel throughout the months of the last war on the Gaza Strip, explaining that two conversations took place between Biden and Netanyahu, and in one of them, Biden realized that Netanyahu was lying to him about the kidnappers.
The official told the Israeli newspaper that his country was preparing to help Israel in the face of the response of Iran and Hezbollah to the assassinations in Beirut and Tehran despite tensions between Biden and Netanyahu.
He explained that the Americans wouldn’t support moves that would further expand the scope of the war, noting that “Netanyahu is trying to prolong the war instead of focusing now on reaching a deal, which makes it difficult for us to continue supporting Israel for a long time”.
In response to those remarks, Netanyahu said he wouldn’t interfere in US politics, and will work with whoever will be elected president, just as he also expects Americans not to interfere in Israeli politics.
Haaretz reported last week that a source who spoke with Netanyahu during his visit to Washington said he was willing to do a lot to resume negotiations, but he is willing to do much less to be flexible in a way that allows for an agreement.
According to the source who spoke to Haaretz newspaper, Netanyahu is convinced that he knows how to negotiate better than any other party, but he forgets that negotiations must have a result as well.
He insists on issues that could lead to the collapse of the talks, rather than being flexible and calm.
