Haaretz: 40,000 fighters from 3 Arab countries arrived in the Golan Heights to support Hezbollah
Haaretz newspaper said on Tuesday that 40,000 fighters from 3 Arab countries arrived near the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, in preparation for the possibility of supporting Hezbollah in the current confrontations against the Israeli army.
Since Monday morning, the Israeli army has launched the most violent and extensive attack on Lebanon since the beginning of the confrontations with Hezbollah about a year ago, resulting in 558 killed, including 50 children and 94 women, in addition to 1,835 wounded, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
In contrast, air raid sirens continue to sound in northern Israel near the border with Lebanon, following Hezbollah’s firing of hundreds of rockets at military sites and settlements, amid a strict Israeli blackout on human and material losses, according to observers.
Quoting unnamed security establishment sources, Haaretz added in a report that “the Israeli army is following with great concern the arrival of about 40,000 fighters from Arab countries, namely Syria, Iraq and Yemen, near the Golan Heights, awaiting an invitation from Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah to participate in the fighting”.
The sources continued, “Even if these 40,000 fighters aren’t elite professional fighters, the matter is extremely worrying”.
Referring to the Hamas attack on October 7, an unnamed senior security official told Haaretz, “We saw what a force of 2,000 to 3,000 armed men can do when they surprise a settlement and attack it”.
The security official added, “If necessary, we will move militarily in Syria as well to make it clear to Damascus better that we no longer accept their presence of those fighters there”.
According to Haaretz report, Hezbollah still has the ability to threaten the Israeli home front, despite the targeting and damage to its military forces during the past period.
