Germany delivers new weapons to Ukraine
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius delivered the first batch of new RCH 155 howitzers to Ukraine on Monday, to boost the country’s artillery.
“Ukraine can count on us, that’s the signal,” Pistorius said in Kassel, where KNDS produces the weapons system.
“Germany is ready to take responsibility in Europe,” Pistorius added.
Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksiy Makeyev symbolically received the first of 54 howitzers planned to be delivered to his country.
The first six of these systems will initially remain in Germany for use in training Ukrainian soldiers.
“We don’t need mediators, we need allies,” the Ukrainian Ambassador said, referring to possible negotiations to end the Ukraine crisis, adding that “we must fight for peace and it is good to know that Germany is on Ukraine’s side”.
The company that produces these cannons describes their weapon as the most modern wheeled howitzer in the world, which for the first time allows firing while moving.
According to the company, the tower can be controlled remotely; Therefore, it can also be controlled from outside.
The new, largely automated artillery system is supposed to require just two soldiers as a crew.
