The German human rights organization called on the country’s government to receive refugees stranded at the border with Belarus, after receiving many requests for help from their relatives.

The organization said in a statement that it and the Refugee Council in Lower Saxony are constantly receiving calls for help from desperate relatives from Germany.

The statement stressed the need for the government to take an urgent decision regarding these migrants, to avoid a catastrophe and save human lives.

The organization also criticized the prevention of international aid organizations and the media from accessing migrants.

Meanwhile, the organization’s executive director, Gunther Burckhardt, expected Chancellor Olaf Scholtz to end this tacit tolerance of suspending the rule of law at EU borders.

He stressed that there is a responsibility to receive immigrants seeking protection who have a special relationship with Germany, for example because of family ties.
