The results of an opinion poll revealed the existence of a division among Germans regarding German arms shipments to Ukraine, which amounted to more than 30 billion Euros, whether those were actually supplied or those that Berlin had categorically pledged to supply.

It should be noted that Germany is the second largest arms supplier to Ukraine after the United States.

The results of the poll conducted by the YouGov Institute for Opinion Research showed that 39% of Germans believe that the amount of German weapons to Ukraine is too large, compared to 26% who believe that the current size is quite adequate, while 18% demanded the supply of more weapons, and 17% of those who didn’t express their opinion Polled people have an opinion on this topic.

The results revealed great skepticism in particular among supporters of the Alternative for Germany party regarding the supply of weapons to Ukraine, as 68% of the supporters of the right-wing populist party expressed their belief that the volume of weapons supplied to the Ukrainian armed forces is greater than necessary.

On the other hand, the results revealed that supporters of the Green Party are the strongest supporters of supplying weapons to Ukraine, with 28% of them expressing their support for increasing the supply of these weapons, while only 22% called for reducing the supply.

It’s noteworthy that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz currently supports increasing military aid from all Western allies to Ukraine, as he fears the insufficient supplies that Ukraine will soon need to confront Russia.

Other economically powerful countries in the European Union, such as France, Italy and Spain, provide much less military support to Ukraine than Germany.
