German Chancellor Angela Merkel was quarantined because of the coronavirus

European media reported today, Sunday, that German Chancellor Angela Merkel had entered a quarantine after contacting a doctor infected with the emerging coronavirus.
A German government spokesman, Stephen Seibert, said in a statement that the chancellor “will test in the coming days” to see if she is infected, adding that she “will continue her official activities in quarantine at home” in Berlin.
Earlier, the German chancellor announced that gatherings in public places with more than two attendees would be banned in Germany for at least two weeks in an attempt to limit the spread of the new Corona.
She added in a press conference that it is necessary to respect the distance of at least 1.5 meters in public places, explaining that restaurants and hairdressing salons will close their doors.
In addition, the German Federal Institute Robert Koch announced today, Sunday, that it recorded 9 deaths and about two thousand new cases of the new Corona virus “Covid-19” in the country during the past 24 hours.
The institute confirmed the registration of 1948 new cases of the epidemic since yesterday, taking the death toll to 18610 people, while the number of deaths due to the virus in the country reached 55.
Germany is currently ranked third, after Italy and Spain, in the list of Europe’s most affected by the Corona virus in terms of the number of registered infections.
The authorities of the largest German state, Bavaria, recently imposed comprehensive isolation in an attempt to deter the spread of the epidemic.
