German Augsburger Allgemeine newspaper: criticism of the leadership of the Merkel party for the proposal of the Minister of Defense on Syria
The deputy head of the Christian Democratic Party in Germany, Armin Laschet, has made clear criticism of the proposal of the party’s president and German Defense Minister, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, on the establishment of an international protection zone in northern Syria.
Laschet, who is head of the government of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, criticized in a statement to the website of the German newspaper “Augsburger Allgemeine” German minister’s lack of coordination within the ruling coalition of this proposal.
Noting that the proposal has many ambiguities, Laschet said, “What do you mean by this proposal?
Do you mean a UN mission?
Do you mean a combat mission?
There are a lot of open questions”.
Laschet also opposed Chancellor Angela Merkel’s successor, that Germany has little responsibility in the world.
“Germany has been contributing thousands of troops for years to stabilize Afghanistan… Germany is in Mali and on the coast of Somalia.
We’re active internationally”.
Laschet is a strong contender for Kramp-Karrenbauer for Merkel’s successor.
This is not the first time he has been criticized for Kramp-Karrenbauer, distancing from her policy in the midst of the controversy over the “opinion-making industry” on the Internet following the party’s critical video broadcast by the activist on YouTube Ritsu last May.
