French President Emmanuel Macron stressed that the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip is unacceptable, stressing that the famine declared by the United Nations is a direct result of Israel’s obstruction of humanitarian aid to the Strip.

Macron’s remarks came during a joint French-German cabinet meeting in Toulon, southern France, on Friday, with the participation of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Macron explained that he discussed the situation in the Middle East with Merz, saying, “I want to say that the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip is unacceptable”.

He added, “The situation declared by the United Nations as a famine is a direct result of the obstruction of humanitarian aid to Gaza”.

He stressed that ending Israeli attacks, delivering humanitarian aid, and holding negotiations with the participation of all parties are essential to achieving peace.

Macron added, “In addition to an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians can only be achieved within the framework of a two-state solution”.
