France’s National Rally Party (TNA) announced on Wednesday a possible visit to Syria with a number of its deputies.
“We’ll confirm to you next week the news of our visit to Syria because we are currently in the process of preparing for this visit, which is likely to take place”, Thierry Mariani the MP in the European Parliament from the French National Rally Party, told Sputnik.
“If we went to Syria, which is estimated at 75 percent, it is very likely that we will meet with Syrian President Bashar Al Assad, and this is what we have already done during our previous visits”.
French newspaper Le Figaro said today that Mariani’s visit to Syria will take place in late August to mark the start of the 61st session of the Damascus International Fair, which begins on the 28th of this month.
This is not the first time that MP Mariani will visit Damascus.
He has already visited five times in recent years, where he met on more than one occasion with Syrian President Bashar Al Assad.
Mariani is known as a defender of the Christians of the East and has already visited several monasteries and churches in Syria during the war.
Mariani was elected as a member of the European Parliament for the National Rally Party during the last European elections in May.
It should be noted that Mariani was a deputy of the right-wing Republican Party before leaving the party and joining the group of Marin Le Pen, leader of the National Rally Party.
