Former US Secretary of State sends a message to Israel’s agents in Iran’s demonstrations
Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the Iranian regime is going through a critical phase, considering that its recruitment of those he described as “mercenaries” represents its “last hope” in the face of internal protests.
Pompeo wrote on X: “The Iranian regime is in trouble. Recruiting mercenaries is his last hope”.
He added, “Disturbances in dozens of cities, and Basij forces are besieged – Mashhad, Tehran, Zahedan, and the next stop: Baluchistan”.
The former US Secretary of State pointed to the 47th anniversary of the Iranian regime’s existence, coinciding with the presence of Donald Trump — the 47th US president — in the White House, and wondered if it was “just a coincidence”.
Pompeo concluded his remarks with a striking and controversial phrase in which he congratulated the Iranian demonstrators on the New Year, saying, “Happy New Year to every Iranian who takes to the streets, as well as to every Mossad agent who walks alongside them,” in an explicit reference to the presence of foreign intelligence operatives on the side of the protesters.
Trump had earlier confirmed that the United States would intervene to save peaceful protesters in Iran if the authorities shoot them, stressing that his country is ready to act immediately to protect peaceful protesters.
For his part, Iran’s National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani warned Trump of a dangerous adventure after his threats to intervene if authorities in Iran killed protesters.
The remarks coincided with the expansion of protests in Iran against the backdrop of the economic deterioration and the rising cost of living, as the movements entered their fifth day and included rural provinces, while the Iranian authorities announced that at least seven people were killed and arrests were recorded, according to official sources and Iranian news agencies.
