Foreign Policy magazine said that the weakness of the US Patriot air defense system is the low mobility of this system, and Russia can take advantage of that.
What is the weak point of the Patriot system?
The Foreign Policy adds that it is unlikely that Ukraine will use the Patriot to counter the drones, because their use in large numbers allows the penetration of air defense systems.
Russian suicide drones can quickly deplete Patriot anti-aircraft missiles and thus penetrate their defenses.
Also, destroying Patriot missiles can be successful by Russian forces for a main reason, which is that moving the Patriot systems to avoid strikes isn’t that easy.
The Foreign Policy explains that operating one battery may require the efforts of three people, while moving it and preparing all its components requires the efforts of up to 90 people.
Also, firing Patriot missiles against some of the missiles would be prohibitively expensive, because each Patriot missile costs about $4 million.
It is noteworthy that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, recently visited Washington at an official invitation, where he met at the White House with US President Joe Biden, and with the leadership of Congress.
Zelensky’s visit was timed to coincide with the announcement of a new $1.85 billion package of US military aid to Ukraine, which includes a long list of aid, including Patriot anti-aircraft system.
