Following Hamas’ release of the hostages… Netanyahu supports a bill to execute Palestinian prisoners!
The Israeli coordinator for hostage and missing persons affairs in the Israeli Prime Minister’s office, Gal Hirsch announced on Monday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supports a bill to execute Palestinian prisoners.
The far-right Jewish Power party submitted the bill, which will be voted on in the Israeli Knesset in its first reading on Wednesday.
The bill stipulates the death penalty for anyone who intentionally or negligently causes the death of an Israeli citizen motivated by racism or hatred and to harm Israel.
Any bill must pass three readings in the Knesset before it becomes law.
According to the official Israeli Broadcasting Corporation, “Hirsch said during deliberations of the parliamentary National Security Committee earlier today that Netanyahu expressed his support for the bill”.
Hirsch added: “I previously expressed my strong opposition to the bill because of the danger it posed to the living hostages in Gaza, so the mission was not accomplished at that time”.
He added: “But the hostages are alive, so my opposition to the matter no longer exists”.
Last October, Hamas released 20 living Israeli hostages as part of US President Donald Trump’s plan.
Earlier on Monday, the parliamentary National Security Committee approved putting the bill to a first reading vote in the Knesset, according to a statement from the Jewish Power party.
Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has repeatedly called for the passage of a bill that would allow the execution of Palestinian prisoners in Israel.
According to data, there are more than 10,000 Palestinian prisoners, including children and women, are held in Israeli prisons, where they suffer torture, starvation, and medical neglect.
Palestinian, Israeli, and international human rights organizations said that Ben-Gvir had significantly tightened the conditions of detention for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons, including preventing visits, reducing the food prisoners are allowed to receive, and also reducing opportunities to shower in prison.
