First summit between the three allied Sahel leaders is expected

Leaders of the Sahel Alliance of Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso are preparing for their first summit, months after the founding of the coalition, following the withdrawal of the three countries from the Group of Five Sahel states.

According to regional media, Malian President Colonel Assimi Goita, Burkinabe Captain Ibrahim Traoré and Nigerien General Abderrahmane Tiani will hold their first summit on Saturday in the capital Niamey.

According to the same media, the three transitional presidents, who came to power following military coups, will discuss the common challenges facing their countries and coordinate solutions on them.

These three countries face security, economic and development challenges, and jointly expel French troops from their territory and ally with Russia as their replacement.
