Financial Times: Alaska summit shows shift in US policy towards Ukraine
The Financial Times quoted Eric Green, former director for Russia and Central Asia at the US National Security Council, as saying that the Alaska summit reflects a shift in US policy towards Ukraine.
Green said the Anchorage summit reflects a shift in US policy toward Ukraine under Trump, noting the continued weakness of Ukraine’s position.
He continued, “The United States is losing more and more influence, which ends Putin’s isolation and raises fundamental questions about Trump’s vision of European security and the positions of Ukraine and Russia within it”.
Putin and Trump held talks in Alaska on Saturday, where the two leaders met at the Elmendorf-Richardson Air Force Base in Anchorage for a meeting that lasted two hours and 45 minutes.
