Ukrainian authorities announced that 10,000 people had been evacuated by fire following explosions that erupted early Tuesday in an arms depot in the north of the country.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman wrote on Twitter that he was heading to the scene of the blasts near the small town of Eichenia, more than 170 km from Kiev.

No casualties were reported.

The fire and explosions began at around 3:30 am Tuesday at the Ministry of Defense’s No. 6 warehouse, which is about 700 hectares, the state emergency agency said.

The magnitude of the disaster has not yet been announced.

About 10,000 people have been evacuated from the area at risk, the agency said in a statement.

He added that the airspace around the area was also closed as well as traffic and trains.

It was the sixth major fire in three years that broke out in a warehouse of the Ukrainian army, which has been locked in a conflict since 2014 in the east with separatists loyal to Russia.

In March 2017 a huge fire broke out and caused explosions in the Balkia warehouse (Kharkov district, east) of a dead site and five wounded.
