Eurasia Expert published the text of a meeting with the former Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan Afshar Soleimani, on the prospects for deepening Tehran’s cooperation with Russia and China.

The meeting stated: In Vienna, consultations are continuing on reviving the nuclear deal, despite the sabotage in Natanz and the imposition of sanctions by Brussels on a number of Iranian officials.

Meanwhile, the date of the presidential elections in the Islamic Republic is approaching.

Former Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan Afshar Soleimani: After Biden’s inauguration, it was expected that the new president would start implementing his electoral promises regarding the United States ’return to the nuclear deal.

The Europeans, as well as China and Russia, support the nuclear deal.

But the Europeans did nothing at all, and China and Russia did not do much of what we hoped for.

However, the economic sanctions had an effect.

Personally, I do not expect any results in the near future.

Parallel to this, the presidential elections are coming in Iran within three months.

The opposition does not want Rouhani to be able to solve the sanctions problem.

Because its solution, it could provide him with very serious assistance during the elections.

There is a group called the “principals” whose chances of winning are highest.

As for the reformists, I do not see among them a strong person who can lead them.

If the “principals” come to power, relations with the East – China and Russia – may deepen even more.

But I do not think that drastic changes will take place in this case, especially after the conclusion of an agreement with China for 25 years.

For example, in the course of implementing sanctions, China and Russia have not been able to maintain comprehensive trade and economic cooperation with Iran.

Iran has differences with Russia and China on some foreign policy issues, to put it mildly.

But China is not as actively involved in Middle Eastern affairs as the United States.
