Esper: Trump has agreed to deploy US forces to protect Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates after the attacks on Aramco and stresses that his country does not seek a conflict with Iran, but has many military options
US Defense Secretary Mark Esper has announced that the United States will send additional weapons to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to improve their defense capabilities.
The United States doesn’t seek a conflict with Iran, but has many military options, he said at a Pentagon press conference.
He added that the attack on Aramco facilities represents an escalation of the Iranian aggression, stressing that the Iranian regime is waging a campaign to destabilize the region.
“We’re supporting our partners in the Gulf and we have other military options if necessary”, he said, adding that Iran was providing weapons to the Houthis in Yemen.
He said Riyadh was leading the investigation against attacks on Aramco facilities.
He stressed that Washington would protect its interests in the region.
“We’ll do everything necessary to help Saudi Arabia defend itself”.
