Erdoğan: Our relations with Washington will flourish thanks to our close friendship with Trump
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed his confidence that relations between his country and the United States will flourish in all areas thanks to the close friendship between him and his US counterpart, Donald Trump.
This came in a speech he delivered on Friday at the official opening of the fourth Antalya Diplomatic Forum.
The Turkish president said, “I am confident that our relations with the United States will flourish in all areas during Trump’s second term, thanks to our close friendship with him”.
He stressed that Türkiye attaches great importance to achieving the $100 billion trade target with its ally and strategic partner, the United States.
The Turkish president also noted that his country has long-standing relations with the Russian Federation.
He pointed out that these relations are developing day after day on a multi-dimensional basis.
He affirmed Türkiye’s determination to strengthen its cooperation with Russia, with which it shares the same geography, based on mutual interests and respect.
Regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war, Erdoğan said that Türkiye attaches great importance to ending it through a just and sustainable peace agreement.
He pointed out that Ankara has taken numerous steps and initiatives in this regard, citing the Black Sea grain shipping initiative, the prisoner exchange, and the Istanbul Initiative.
Erdoğan stressed that Türkiye would continue to maintain its balanced and proactive stance, which he said it has maintained since the first day of the war.
On another note, President Erdogan stressed that Türkiye would do its utmost to ensure that trade competition, which is escalating through tariffs, doesn’t become destructive, adding that Türkiye, “thanks to its shock-resistant economy,” will be able to overcome this period successfully.
