Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that Azerbaijan has expressed its willingness to supply Syria with natural gas, a move described as potentially contributing to alleviating the country’s stifling energy crisis.

Speaking to reporters upon his return from a visit to Baku, Erdoğan explained that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev had expressed a clear desire to provide full support to Syria in securing gas.

The Turkish president said, “President Aliyev’s position is very encouraging, especially since the biggest challenge facing Syria currently is the shortage of natural gas, which is an essential element for ensuring continued energy production and the operation of infrastructure”.

He added, “Azerbaijan’s willingness to provide gas to Syria is good news,” noting the importance of this step-in supporting stability and reconstruction efforts.
