“Ekrem Imamoglu” the new mayor of Istanbul, are we in front of the next president of Turkey?
The Turkish opposition candidate for the secular, People’s Republican Party, founded by Mustafa Kemal “Ataturk” Ekrem Imamoglu, according to the preliminary results of winning the elections to the presidency of the municipality of Istanbul, winning 48.79% on the former Turkish Prime Minister Ben Ali Yildirim, candidate of Justice and Development Party, led by the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, after receiving a votes of 48.51%.
The results of the municipal elections, despite the victory of the Justice and Development Party by a popular votes of 52% in all of Turkey, the candidates for the party presidency of the municipalities of the largest cities of Turkey fell to the candidates of the Republican People’s Party, especially in major cities such as Istanbul, Antalya, Izmir, Aderna, amd the capital Ankara, along with other cities.
Only the name of the candidate of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), winner of the election of Istanbul mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, is the undisputed leader of the elections.
Who is Ekrem Imamoglu?
Oglu was born in the Turkish city of Trabzon in 1970, and took almost the same course that Erdogan took.
Imamoglu graduated from Istanbul University with a Bachelor in Business Administration, like the President who studied business administration in Marmara University and also played football.
He managed a construction company and then ran the Trabzon Sport football club, which has become a record of the best clubs in the Turkish Premier League.
His successful career in the business world prompted him to go to politics.
Imamoglu became a leading member of the opposition Republican People’s Party in 2008, when Erdogan was prime minister.
In the same year that Recep Tayyip Erdogan took over the presidency, Imamoglu’s popularity continued to expand in Istanbul, until he was elected governor of the municipality of Belikduzo, one of the areas of the European section of the city.
Oglu said immediately after the results came out, that his party had made many mistakes in the past which it must be rectified, as he declared victory in the elections and changed his name on his Twitter account to “the mayor of Istanbul”.
It’s noteworthy that the final results of the presidency of the city of Istanbul has not yet been announced, as opposed to the Justice and Development Party, which means that the recount will be again in a number of ballots, which witnessed as the opposition of the Justice and Development, some fraud cases.
