“Der Spiegel” apologizes for the fabrication of a prominent journalist in which fabricated stories!

The German “Der Spiegel” magazine will publish on its front page on Saturday an apology for its journalist who has already won several awards, which he published several fake stories and fabricated news.
Klaus Relutius, 33, resigned after admitting that he had created stories and characters in more than a dozen newspaper stories published in electronic and paper versions of the weekly magazine, one of the most important German publications.
In early December, Relutius received the award of the year’s correspondent for an article about young Syrians who contributed to the launching of the 2011 protests against the Syrian regime.
The front page of the magazine was titled “The Information as it is”, referring to quote of its founder, Radolf Augustin, which is stand at the entrance of the magazine’s headquarters in Hamburg.
In an editorial, the magazine said the scandal, which included topics including Syrian orphans and Holocaust survivors, was “the worst thing that could happen to a journalist’s editorial team”.
The magazine apologized for the “mistake” and vowed “to do everything to strengthen our credibility again”.
He (Relutius) has been in the magazine for seven years and has won several awards for his investigative journalism, including a CNN journalist in 2014.
After a journalist who collaborated with him in an article on stories from the Mexican-American border, charged him with this, Relutius admitted that he had fabricated statements and scenes.
The magazine said it was “lucky that one of our staff was able to find out”.
Fourteen articles, including one from a Yemeni, spent 14 years at Guantánamo without any good reason, and another about American football player Colin Kabernik, who kneeled when the national anthem was broadcast during the games to denounce racist acts of violence.
The journalist claimed to have met his parents.
Right-wing supporters of the far-right “Alternative to Germany” party describe mainstream media as “false media”.
The extreme right in Germany used the case as “evidence of the dysfunction of good media”.
The German Der Spiegel magazine is one of the most controversial media source since it has published many articles and news that cast doubt on its credibility.
Thus, the case of its journalist Relutius is a new confirmation of many allegations of lack of credibility which the German magazine are accused of.
