British Defense Secretary John Healey said his country is prepared for an armed confrontation with Russia, considering the country’s increased spending on its armed forces and industrial base as part of its readiness to fight if necessary.

The Daily Express quoted Healy as commenting on the increase in British defense spending, saying, “This is a message to Moscow… Britain is strengthening its armed forces and its industrial base… This is part of our readiness to fight if necessary”.

In a statement, Healy revealed that the UK will spend 3% of its GDP on defense by 2034, stressing that he has no doubt the country’s ability to achieve this goal.

Recently, Western rhetoric about a military confrontation with Russia has escalated, with successive statements in the West regarding the possibility of a direct armed conflict between NATO and Moscow, pointing to unprecedented activity near Russia’s western borders.

NATO is also expanding its initiatives, describing them as “containing Russian aggression”.

For its part, Moscow has repeatedly expressed concern about the NATO buildup in Europe.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Russia “remains open to dialogue with NATO,” but on the basis of equality, stressing the need for the West to abandon its policy of “militarizing the continent”.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly made it clear that Moscow doesn’t intend to attack NATO countries, asserting that such a move “makes no sense”.

Putin explained that Western politicians “constantly frighten their people with an imaginary Russian threat” in order to divert attention from their own internal problems, but that “smart people understand perfectly well that this is a lie”.
