Coronavirus around the world: more than 43 thousand new cases in the United States and 10 thousand others in South Africa… Mexico’s deaths exceed 30 thousand and new numbers appears in China and south Korea

On Saturday evening, South Africa recorded more than 10 thousand new infections with Coronavirus, in a record daily toll feared to indicate a surge in the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic in this country, according to official data.

The Ministry of Health said that during the past 24 hours, the country recorded 10,853 new cases of the virus, bringing the total number of people infected with the deadly virus in this country to 187,977 people.

The south African Ministry of Health added that the number of those who died in South Africa within 24 hours reached 74 people, bringing the total number of victims of the epidemic in the country to 3,026 people.

Health authorities expect the number of people living with Covid-19 to rise in the country with the lifting of the closures imposed on March 27, while the economic authorities expect the country’s economy to shrink by more than 7% this year in the largest contraction in 90 years.

On Saturday evening, the United States recorded more than 43,000 new infections with Coronavirus, according to data published at 20:30 (00:30 GMT Sunday) by Johns Hopkins University.

The university data, which is a reference in tracking cases and deaths caused by Covid-19, showed that the United States recorded within 24 hours 43,742 new cases of the epidemic, in addition to 252 deaths, bringing the total number of people who killed the deadly virus they saw in this country to 129,657 people.

In the same context, the Mexican authorities announced that the death toll of Coronavirus, which originated in the country, exceeded the barrier of 30,000 deaths on Saturday, surpassing France, which was ranked fifth in terms of number of deaths since the outbreak of the virus.

Officials reported the death of 523 new confirmed cases of the virus during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 30 thousand and 366 cases due to the epidemic. 

The total number of confirmed cases in Mexico increased by about 6000 to reach 251,165 cases, on an equal basis with Spain, the eighth highest number of cases.

In a related development, about 200 street vendors closed some major roads in downtown Mexico City on Saturday to demand that they be allowed to sell again in the Coronavirus pandemic.

It is noteworthy that the colonial sidewalks of the colonial era are usually crowded with street vendors, but since last March the city has banned such informal trade and stopped most of the trade in the region to stop the spread of the virus.

South Korea has reported more than 60 new cases of Covid-19 for the third consecutive day, as the virus has spread outside the Greater Seoul region.

On Sunday, the Chinese health authorities announced that they had registered 8 new cases with Covid-19 during the past 24 hours, as it seemed that the recent outbreak in Beijing had largely started in its path.

The Chinese capital witnessed two new cases, on the seventh day in a row, which witnessed an increase of less than 10 cases.

On Saturday, the World Health Organization announced that it had stopped its experiments to treat patients with “HCH” drug, “Lubinavir / Ritonavir”, after it had failed to reduce deaths.

This came in a statement issued by the organization, about experiments for treating patients with drug-dependent “malaria hydroxychloroquine” and “lopinavir / ritonavir” used to treat people with AIDS.

The statement pointed out that the organization accepted the recommendation issued by the “International Steering Committee for the Experience of Solidarity”, to stop the aforementioned drug trials.

The organization has already conducted experiments under the name of “Solidarity Experience”, to find an effective remedy against Coronavirus.
