Controversy after the appearance of a convict in the assassination of the Egyptian Attorney General with HTS leader
Egyptian media revealed the identity of a person who recently appeared in a photo with Ahmed al Sharaa, (Abu Muhammad al Julani), the leader of Hay’at Tahrir al Sham and commander of the military operations department in Syria, which overthrew the Assad regime.
The person’s name was Mahmoud Fathy, and he was one of the main suspects in the assassination of the late Egyptian Attorney General, Counselor Hisham Barakat, in 2015, according to local media.
According to Egypt, Fathi is considered the general coordinator of the various Muslim Brotherhood, and he is sentenced to death for the assassination of the Egyptian Attorney General.
Fathi posted the photo on his Instagram account, before deleting it later.
He explained that Mahmoud Fathy is considered one of the members of the Hazemoun movement, which was founded by Hazem Salah Abu Ismail, who is currently imprisoned in Egypt.
He is also considered one of the assistants to the Muslim Brotherhood leader Khairat al Shater between 2012 and 2013, and one of the arms of the Egyptian terrorist Hisham Ashmawy during his presence in Libya.
Fathi is also one of the elements involved in the siege of the Media Production City and the Supreme Constitutional Court in Egypt during the period of clashes that Egypt witnessed after the January 2011 revolution.
According to Egyptian sources, Mahmoud Fathy had fled to Türkiye following the June 30, 2013 uprising.
For his part, journalist Mustafa Bakri said, “After al Julani received the killer of the martyr Hisham Barakat, he decided to grant residency to those he calls foreign fighters, meaning that Syria will become the Arab Kandahar, where terrorists gather to set off to their countries as supported conspirators”.
Mahmoud Badr, a member of the Egyptian People’s Assembly, said, “It’s all one network and no one is trying to convince us otherwise… This is a despicable attempt at blackmail and a rotten threat to move the brides again, but this country is bigger than to be subject to the blackmail of gangs and what keeps them busy”.
