Colombian president sends warning message to Trump: Don’t threaten our sovereignty
Colombian President Gustavo Petro has invited his US counterpart, Donald Trump, to visit Colombia to witness the daily destruction of laboratories, so that cocaine doesn’t reach the United States.
In a post on X, Petro confirmed that his government had “destroyed 18,400 laboratories without the use of missiles,” addressing Trump, saying, “Come with me, and I’ll teach you how to destroy them”.
He went on to warn Trump: “Don’t threaten our sovereignty, because you will wake up the tiger… Attacking our sovereignty is a declaration of war, which doesn’t spoil two centuries of diplomatic relations”.
Petro also confirmed that Trump had already slandered him, urging him to not continue down this path.
“If there’s a country that has helped stop thousands of tons of cocaine so that North Americans don’t consume it, it’s Colombia,” he said.
Petro’s remarks came in response to Trump, who threatened that Colombia “could be the target of attacks because of cocaine production,” he said.
