CNN: US officials fears of expanding the war in Gaza to the entire Middle East

US officials’ fears are still increasing about the expansion of the scope of the war in the Middle East, according CNN.

CNN said that the increasing possibility of losses among US soldiers, and the deteriorating security situation from the Indian Ocean to the Red Sea, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Israel represents a new, unwelcome external crisis, especially regarding the issue of the re-election of US President Joe Biden.

While the US administration faces endless tests and its credibility is at stake by its opponents, CNN added that the statements Israel made regarding the continuation of its war against Gaza for several months, despite US pressures to calm the intensity of the conflict, threaten to increase the chances of the war spiraling out of control and dragging the United States to it.

CNN indicated that the pace of targeting and escalation in recent days is gaining deadly momentum against US forces stationed in Iraq and Syria, and the new wave of events highlights the possibility of a dangerous escalation of the war, reveals the extent to which US forces are directly exposed to danger, and helps explain the increasingly urgent appeals from Washington to Israel to reduce the war in Gaza.

The US army currently, has bases in Iraqi and Syrian territories, as they were subjected to more than 110 attacks since the 7th of last October.

According to the former director of the US government’s Hostage Recovery Administration, Christopher O’Leary, “The situation of US forces in Iraq and Syria is particularly dangerous, as they are easily accessible to armed forces (resistance factions), so the line between proportionate responses and effective deterrence has become thin”.

Increasingly, the most important thing is whether the American forces will be able, through their strikes, which Iraq condemned and considered a hostile act, to repel any future attacks?

CNN indicated that the possibility of military action in the Middle East is the last thing Biden hoped to deal with, so any action Biden takes to try to extend his authority over a world that sometimes seems to be spiraling out of control may be politically harmful, especially with the approaching US presidential elections in 2024.
