CIA director meets with Israeli and Qatari officials to discuss a new prisoner exchange agreement between Hamas and Israel
CIA Director William Burns is scheduled to meet with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani and the head of the Israeli intelligence service (Mossad) in Warsaw on Monday to discuss a possible new agreement to release Israeli hostages, held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared to confirm on Saturday that new negotiations are underway to recover the hostages held by Hamas, after a source said that the head of Israeli intelligence met with the Prime Minister of Qatar, which is mediating in this conflict.
An informed source said that Mossad chief David Barnea met with al Thani in Norway late on Friday.
Tomasz Szymoniak, a member of the Polish Cabinet and coordinator of the special services, said that he met with Burns on Monday, but didn’t mention his other activities in Warsaw.
“Today, Monday, December 18, 2023, my guest was William Burns, Director of the CIA,” Szymoniak wrote on X, “We discussed current cooperation between Polish-US allies in the field of security, especially in the context of the war in Ukraine”.
He added, “We also talked about the challenges facing NATO before the next summit in Washington in 2024… We stressed our common will to maintain the closest possible cooperation between the secret services of our two countries”.
