Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby affirmed that the conclusion of the military cooperation agreement between his country and France is an important step towards achieving sovereignty and self-determination for the development of Chad.

During his reception of French National Rally leader Marine Le Pen, Déby added that ending the agreement between N’Djamena and Paris doesn’t necessarily mean severing French-Chadian relations.

For her part, Le Pen said she shares the Chadian president’s vision of achieving full sovereignty and treating people equally and with respect.

She also encourages his vision for building and developing the country and achieving security and stability.

Le Pen added that Chadian-French relations have witnessed a wave of tension, but this is the beginning of laying the foundations for equal relations that will benefit the two brotherly peoples of France and Chad.

In the Chadian city of Ajacs, which Marine Le Pen is visiting for the second time, Deby and his guest discussed the future of political relations between Chad and France.

On January 30, 2025, the French army handed over the “Koussi camp” to its Chadian counterpart, the last French military base in Chad, thus officially ending the French military presence in the country.

The withdrawal came after Chad announced the cancellation of a military cooperation agreement with France, which President Mahamat Déby Itno deemed outdated given the current political and geostrategic realities.
