Bulgaria to start using the Euro as of January 1st 2026

As of January 1, 2026, Bulgaria will enter a new historic phase by officially joining the Eurozone, becoming the 21st country to adopt the single European currency.

The number of users of the Euro after Bulgaria’s accession is estimated at more than 350 million, and this gives Bulgaria a seat on the European Central Bank’s Board of Governors.

Despite being welcomed by local businesses and businesses, Bulgarian public opinion remains divided between supporters of the move as promoting economic stability and opponents who fear rising prices and losing control over national monetary policy.

In the capital, Sofia, shops have already started quoting in local fiber and Euro together in preparation for the big monetary transition.
