The executive committee of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), the ruling party in Turkey, has announced the referral of former Prime Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, to the disciplinary council in preparation for his dismissal, for criticizing the country’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the party.

The Turkish “Hurriyet” newspaper, published that “the decision was made after a five hours meeting of the Executive Committee of the party headed by Erdogan”.

“There is a tendency to isolate three other members for criticizing Erdogan and their pursuit with Davutoglu to establish a new political party”, an AKP official told the newspaper.

Davutoglu is one of the most prominent founders of the AKP in 2001.

He served as Turkey’s foreign minister and became its prime minister until his resignation in 2016, saying that the AKP “deviated from its basic principles”.

Local media pointed out that Davutoglu criticized several times after the resignation of Erdogan’s decision to turn the system of government into the presidency in 2018 , after the system has been a parliamentary system since the founding of the modern state by ‘Ataturk’ in 1923.

“The AKP needs structural reforms in order to avoid the mistakes that led to its decline in Istanbul and Ankara in the recent local elections”, he said in a Facebook post.

Several press reports last February, revealed the intention of Davutoglu to establish a new party includes several prominent figures of the “Justice and Development Party”.
