Britain is considering recognizing a Palestinian state without Israel’s approval

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron announced, during a statement to The Associated Press, the possibility of his country officially recognizing the Palestinian state after reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

He pointed out that this recognition could happen without waiting for the results of the long talks between Israel and the Palestinians on the two-state solution.

Cameron made these statements during a visit to Lebanon aimed at calming regional tensions.

He stressed that recognition cannot happen as long as Hamas is present in Gaza, but it could be possible during continued negotiations between Israel and Palestinian leaders.

He noted that recognition doesn’t have to happen at the beginning of the process but can come at the end.

He stressed the importance of giving the Palestinian people a chance for a better future and establishing their own state.

Cameron stressed that this recognition could be vital for achieving peace and security in the region in the long term, and also noted that the first step should be to stop the fighting in Gaza, which should ultimately lead to a sustained and sustainable ceasefire.

Britain has also presented a proposal for a plan to calm tensions on the Lebanese-Israeli border, which includes training Lebanese forces to carry out additional security tasks in the border area.
