The British government has urged its citizens to leave Syria as soon as possible, stressing the need not to travel there due to the tense security situation.

In a warning issued by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office on Sunday, it said, “We advise against all travel to Syria due to the ongoing conflict and unstable security conditions… If you are a British national in Syria, you should leave the country by any means available”.

The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office explained that there is no consular support available from the British government in Syria, as all embassy services in Damascus were suspended several years ago.

The office asked British citizens to contact the Foreign Office in London for assistance, and warned that travel insurance becomes invalid if travel is made against its advice, and called for the need to search for safe travel destinations and obtain appropriate insurance if a decision is made to travel despite the warnings.
