In Germany Boris Pistorius, who currently holds the Interior minister in the state of Lower Saxony, has appointed as new defense minister of Germany.

The German Chancellor Olaf Scholz confirmed, on Tuesday, the appointment of a politician belonging to the Social Democratic Party, Boris Pistorius, as Minister of Defense, considering that he is the right person for the position in a sensitive period.

Scholz said that Pistorius is a politician with administrative experience, and has been involved in security policies for years, and with his competence, determination, and great heart, he is the right person to lead the Bundeswehr (the German Federal armed forces) in this era of change.

This follows the resignation of Christine Lambrecht at a sensitive time for the ministry, as Germany comes under increasing pressure to send tanks to Ukraine.

Lambrecht has been criticized for a series of missteps she has made since the start of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis on February 24.

Lambrecht aroused the displeasure of the Ukrainian authorities by announcing the dispatch of five thousand helmets, while President Volodymyr Zelensky was demanding heavy weapons.

She also used a military helicopter to go on holiday with her eldest son.

The latest lapse was her appearance in a video clip in which she congratulated her on the occasion of the New Year, and praised the meetings that the Ukrainian crisis made available to her.
