On Tuesday, Russia announced its readiness to mediate between Saudi Arabia and Iran if the two countries wanted to do so.

This came in statements by the Russian President’s special envoy to the Middle East and African countries, Mikhail Bogdanov to the local Russian TASS news agency.

Asked if Moscow was in contact with Riyadh and Tehran amid reports that Iran might launch an attack on Saudi Arabia, Bogdanov replied, “Of course, we are in contact with both our Saudi friends and our Iranian friends”.

And of course, we are in favor of resolving all misunderstandings and contradictions within the framework of a constructive dialogue at the negotiating table.

Bogdanov continued, “We’ve always been ready and are already making efforts to play a certain mediation role, if our friends in Riyadh and Tehran ask for it”.
