Iran is seeking new air defense systems from Russia, which Israeli officials believe will reduce Tel Aviv’s chance of launching a possible attack targeting Tehran’s nuclear program.
Bloomberg News reported that people in Israel and the US with knowledge of the discussions said that the possibility of Iran acquiring the Russian S400 systems would speed up Israel’s decision to launch a possible attack.
Russia hasn’t said publicly that it will supply weapons to Iran, but relations between Moscow and Tehran have become closer since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“The longer we wait, the more difficult it will become,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said about striking Iran at a security conference in Tel Aviv last week.
“We’ve waited a long time, and I can say that I’ll do everything in my power to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons”.
