Biden: The most dangerous terrorist threat to the United States comes from white supremacists
US President Joe Biden said that “white supremacists pose the most serious terrorist threat within the United States”.
He said, “White-terror domestic terrorism is the most serious terrorist threat in our homeland, and our administration is undertaking the first-ever comprehensive effort to combat the threat posed by domestic terrorism, including the White Supremacy movement”.
He added: “We do this by taking measures to reduce the level of online extremism and combat recruitment to commit violence.
We are also destroying networks that incite violence and domestic terrorism… We cannot and should not provide a haven for hate”.
Biden earlier instructed his administration to step up the fight against domestic extremism, to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the risks of domestic extremism in connection with the January 6 riots in the US Congress.
For his part, said Attorney General Merrick Garland, “US authorities have made about 650 arrests since the start of the investigation into the disturbances at the Capitol Building”.
On January 6, supporters of former Republican President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol to prevent approval of the results of the country’s presidential elections in November 2020.
