Biden: I am considering running for a second presidential term and will wait for the right time to announce the final decision
The US President Joe Biden on Wednesday reiterated that he intends to run for a second term in 2024, but said he would confirm it early next year.
“I intend to run,” Biden said at a press conference at the White House, but stressed that it was a “family decision”.
Biden praised Tuesday’s mid-term elections in the United States, describing it as a “good day for democracy” after his camp succeeded in limiting the damage, despite expectations that the Republicans would advance over the Democrats in the House of Representatives.
“There was an election yesterday (Tuesday),” Biden said at a news conference… I think it was a good day for democracy and a good day for the United States”.
“While the press and experts expected a red wave, this didn’t happen,” he added, referring to the color adopted by the Republican Party.
On Tuesday night, the Republicans appeared in a good position to win a majority in the House of Representatives, but by a narrow margin.
In the Senate, Democratic President Joe Biden’s 79-year-old camp snatched from the Republicans the seat that was most contested in this election.
On Wednesday, the US president acknowledged that “many are suffering”.
“The voters clearly expressed their concerns about high prices… And the need to reduce inflation,” he said, also referring to concerns about crimes and security, noting that Republicans had focused a lot during their campaigns on these files.
“I would like to thank especially the young people of this country who, I was told… Voted in record numbers, as happened two years ago,” he added.
The US President expressed his “willingness” to work with the Republican opposition in Congress, stressing his openness to all “good ideas”, and stressing that the future of the United States cannot be held captive by an “endless political war”.
Biden indicated that he would soon invite opposition leaders to a meeting at the White House.
