Biden: Gaza ceasefire agreement ‘imminent’
US President Joe Biden expressed his belief that a ceasefire agreement will be reached in the Gaza Strip soon.
This came in a speech he delivered on Monday, in which he spoke about his foreign policy during his four-year term.
Biden said in this regard, “We’re very close to achieving the ceasefire that was proposed months ago”.
He pointed out that since yesterday he had held important contacts with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el Sisi.
The US President claimed that he is working hard to achieve a ceasefire agreement between the two sides.
Biden explained that if a ceasefire is achieved, prisoners will be released, fighting will stop, and humanitarian aid will be delivered to Gaza.
Despite his unequivocal support for Israel in its war of annihilation in Gaza, Biden said, “It would be possible to significantly increase humanitarian aid to the Palestinians.
Biden said, “The Palestinians have lived through hell… Too many innocent people have been killed… The Palestinian people deserve peace and the right to self-determination… Israel also deserves peace and real security”.
On Monday, there were increasing claims in Israel about the imminent conclusion of the agreement, as the Israeli Channel 12 quoted Israeli sources as saying that the details of the deal to release the hostages have been agreed upon, and now we are waiting for the final response from Hamas.
Hamas has repeatedly confirmed its readiness to conclude an agreement, and in fact agreed last May to a proposal put forward by US President Joe Biden, but Netanyahu backed down from it by insisting on continuing the war and not withdrawing the army from Gaza.
Earlier on Monday, the Israeli Walla website reported that Israel was on its way to concluding a possible prisoner exchange deal with Hamas.
