Biden denounces Trump’s “unreasonable irresponsibility” regarding the elections and affirms that he chose a treasury secretary and will announce him soon and will not impose a “comprehensive national lockdown” despite the high number of COVID-19 cases
US President-elect Joe Biden has accused outgoing President Donald Trump of “irresponsibility” in his quest to stay in power.
Biden told reporters that Americans “witness an unreasonable irresponsibility and harmful and unreasonable messages sent to the rest of the world about the way democracy works”.
Biden said after a call with state governors that he was not concerned that Trump’s refusal to acknowledge his defeat in the election would prevent the transfer of power, but added that he “sends a horrific message about our situation as a country”.
Biden announced Thursday that he had chosen a treasury secretary who would be accepted by the entire Democratic Party, and that he would announce him soon.
Biden said during a press conference in his hometown Wilmington, Delaware, “We have made the decision and we will inform you about it before or after Thanksgiving Day,” which Americans celebrate on November 26.
Sources close to the Democratic president-elect said that Biden’s choice may have fallen on Lyle Brainard, 58, who is the only Democratic member of the Fed’s monetary policy committee (the US Central Bank).
If the position were to fall to her, Brainard would be the first US Treasury Secretary in more than two centuries.
This technocrat, who graduated from the prestigious Harvard University, is well acquainted with the Treasury Department as she was responsible for international affairs under the Obama administration prior to her appointment to the Federal Reserve.
It has been particularly in charge of manipulating China ‘s national currency (the yuan) issue.
He added that he would not impose a comprehensive national lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19, despite the high number of infections.
Biden said, “There are no circumstances that I think would require a comprehensive national lockdown.
I think it will be counter-productive”.
