US senator, Bernie Sanders has announced that he won’t attend Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to Congress next week.

This came in an interview with MSNBC, where he launched a scathing attack on Netanyahu and called him a war criminal, stressing that Gaza is experiencing a horrific humanitarian disaster.

The Israel Broadcasting Corporation reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reluctant to ratify a prisoner swap deal with Hamas ahead of his travel to Washington this week.

The Israel Broadcasting Corporation added that Netanyahu has not yet authorized the negotiating delegation to resume negotiations and finalize the deal.

For his part, the US national security adviser said that the administration is working on a daily basis to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages, adding that the meeting between President Biden and Netanyahu will focus on these issues in addition to increasing aid.

At the same time, Israeli Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that Defense Minister Yoav Galant and security and army chiefs support a deal with Hamas, arguing that conditions have matured and that may be the last chance.

A Channel 12 poll showed that 66% of Israelis support a deal with Hamas, while 54% believe Netanyahu shouldn’t travel to Washington and stay to seal the deal.
