Berlin: Robert Habeck announces that he won’t seek another term leadership of the Green Party
After the electinos, Sunday, and in a surprising political development, Robert Habeck, (55), the Green Party’s candidate for chancellor, announced that he won’t seek any leadership position within the party.
“I’ll no longer aspire to any leadership role within the Green Party structure,” Habeck said on Monday .
He also expressed his dissatisfaction with the results of the parliamentary elections held on Sunday, saying, “A better result could have been achieved”.
Habeck hasn’t yet decided whether to accept his seat in the Bundestag, but he has suffered a severe blow after completely failing to achieve his goal of becoming chancellor.
Adding to the pressure on him is that the Green Party won just 11.6% of the vote in this election, far below the 14.8% the party recorded in 2021, a significant decline under his leadership.
