Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint declaration on Friday following the trilateral summit hosted by US President Donald Trump at the White House.

Trump hosted Aliyev and Pashinyan at the peace summit held at the White House.

In a joint press conference, Trump said, “Armenia and Azerbaijan are committed to a cessation of hostilities, the resumption of trade and diplomatic relations, and respect for each other’s territorial integrity”.

Trump stressed that the joint declaration represents an important peace opportunity for the region.

He added, “We’ll lift the defense sanctions on Azerbaijan, and this decision is very important for Baku”.

On Thursday, Trump announced that Aliyev and Pashinyan would sign a peace agreement at the White House.

In March 2025, Azerbaijan and Armenia reached an understanding on the text of the peace agreement to be signed between the two countries.

Baku demands that Yerevan amend the constitution for the sake of peace, after removing articles in the Armenian constitution and other legal regulations that contradict Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

It also calls for the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group, which was established to resolve the crisis between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

On September, 2020, the Azerbaijani army launched an operation to regain control of the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

After 44 days of fighting, Azerbaijan and Armenia reached a ceasefire agreement, under which Baku regained control of the region.

Since then, the two countries have continued negotiations to reach a peace agreement and normalize relations between them.

On Friday, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the progress made between Azerbaijan and Armenia towards establishing lasting peace between the two countries.

This came in a statement regarding the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, hosted by US President Donald Trump at the White House.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry said, “We welcome the progress made between Azerbaijan and Armenia towards establishing lasting peace, and we commend the commitment shown by the two countries in this regard during the meeting in Washington”.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry stressed that this step, which comes at a time of escalating international conflicts and crises, represents a crucial development for regional peace and stability.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry praised the US administration’s contributions to the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry added, “As Türkiye, we will continue to contribute to the efforts made to realize this historic opportunity for peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus and will support Azerbaijan’s sincere efforts”.
