After meeting Traoré in Moscow… The Russian President confirms Russia’s will to help Burkina Faso suppress extremist groups
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia will help Burkina Faso suppress extremist groups that still exist in some regions of the country.
During talks at the Kremlin on Saturday with Burkina Faso President Ibrahim Traoré, Putin added that Moscow would help Ouagadougou restore law and constitutional order.
Putin described relations between Russia and Burkina Faso as friendly, and the volume of trade between the two countries as modest.
He emphasized the need to maintain the pace of trade growth and to work together to strengthen economic relations and diversify mutual trade.
The Russian president explained that Traoré’s visit to Russia to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the victory carries a profound symbolic significance.
For his part, the Burkinabe president said that Russia occupies a prominent position on the international stage despite the sanctions imposed on it, and that his country is aware of this.
In a post on X, Traoré welcomed the mutually beneficial partnership between Burkina Faso and the Russian Federation, noting the commitment of the Sahel Alliance countries, which also includes his country, Mali, and Niger, to “victory in the war on terrorism and imperialism at any cost”.
Relations between Russia and these three countries have strengthened after its relations with France deteriorated following the coups that brought military leaders to power in Bamako, Ouagadougou, and Niamey.
