At least eight people were wounded in a heavy attack by Russian drones and missiles in Kyiv on Saturday morning, the day the warring sides were set to carry out the second phase of a record prisoner swap.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said via Telegram, “The capital and its region are once again under massive enemy attack… Air defense systems are operating non-stop in Kyiv and its suburbs”.

He added that these attacks resulted in at least eight people being injured, two of whom were taken to the hospital while the rest received treatment on the spot, in addition to extensive destruction and fires.

The mayor and both the military and civilian administrations in Kyiv reported several fires and the debris of missiles and drones falling on buildings in several neighborhoods of the city.

On Friday, two people were killed in Russian airstrikes targeting the southern coastal city of Odessa, and three others in the Kherson region, also in the south.

On the other hand, the Russian army said that Ukraine had targeted Russian territory with 788 drones and missiles since Tuesday, 776 of which were shot down.

These attacks came as Russia and Ukraine embarked on a record prisoner exchange, which was supposed to include 1,000 prisoners from each side over three days.
