A US documentary reveals the identity of the Israeli soldier who killed the Al Jazeera correspondent Killed Shireen Abu Akleh

For the first time, the identity of the Israeli soldier who killed Al Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Akleh has been revealed in an investigative documentary produced by the American media platform Zeteo, titled, “Who Killed Shireen?”

The documentary premiered in New York City, revealing new information about the identity of the soldier who killed Shireen Abu Akleh in 2022 in the northern West Bank city of Jenin.

According to the documentary, the killer is Israeli soldier Alon Skagio, but ironically, he was killed on June 27, 2024, by an explosive device during the raid on the city of Jenin.

The Israeli soldier who revealed the killer’s identity in the documentary said that Skagio didn’t boast about killing Shireen Abu Akleh, nor did he express any remorse or remorse for it.

Al Jazeera quoted its correspondent as saying that the soldier who killed Shireen Abu Akleh was killed last summer by resistance fighters during a military operation conducted by the occupation forces in the city of Jenin.

The documentary revealed the efforts of the Israeli and American governments to conceal information related to the circumstances of the late colleague’s assassination and prevent access to the killer.

The documentary was filmed in Washington, Jerusalem, and Jenin, and includes interviews with officials closely following the case, such as Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen, as well as new sources who have not spoken publicly about the circumstances and investigations surrounding Shireen Abu Akleh’s assassination.

The documentary is directed by investigative journalist and former Wall Street Journal correspondent Dion Nissenbaum.

Shireen Abu Akleh was killed on May 11, 2022. Investigations conducted by Palestinian, Israeli, and international media and human rights organizations concluded that she was shot by the Israeli army while covering the raid on the city of Jenin.
