A survey has revealed that a third of German consumers are increasingly avoiding American products and services due to the policies of US President Donald Trump.

According to a survey conducted by the Innofact Institute for Public Opinion Research and commissioned by comparison portal Firefox, 34.3% of respondents said they were already purchasing less American goods and services, and another 17% said they intended to reduce their consumption of these goods and services.

Consumers are particularly concerned about American smartphones, with a third of them either wanting to reconsider their purchasing behavior or already have.

About 30% of respondents indicated they no longer wished to use American computers or social media services like Instagram and X.

However, regarding the messaging app WhatsApp, only about 17% of Germans said they could envision using alternatives.

Meanwhile, about 30% of survey respondents question the feasibility of boycotting American goods, and 36.3% go a step further, believing that American services like WhatsApp and Amazon have already become so dominant that they cannot be dispensed with.

The survey was conducted online between April 30 and May 2, 2025. 1,015 people aged 18 to 79 were surveyed.

According to the Firefox platform, the survey is representative of the population in terms of age, gender, and German states.
